This is part of a spiral design carved on The Hilton of Cadboll Stone, an erect cross-slab from Ross-shire, Scotland. The erect cross-slabs were ornately carved upright slabs of stone mostly found in Scotland and decorated as if they were pages of illuminated manuscript. This type of sculpted stonework dates from ninth to eleventh centuries.
